Still Life in Acrylic

Still Life in Acrylic

The approach to this demo is to focus initially on the tonal values and main shapes of the still life objects.

First, a light watery wash was applied to the background paper, and then the main shapes and rough proportions were outlined in slightly thicker paint of the same colour.

Most of the colours were mixed before starting the painting and adjusted as it progressed.

The darkest areas were then blocked in with a large flat brush.  Then the lighter tones were added without any detail,  followed by the mid-tones.

Then applying and adjusting shapes and tones by layering colours,  blending the paint while the layers are wet.  Observing the direction of the light to correct the highlights and shadows began to make the objects appear 3D.

Final touches were made adding the details and blending edges, and accentuating the main tonal contrasts.
