Each year in May we hold a big picture day. In 2009 we chose “The Birth of Venus” by Botticelli in 2010 it was “A bar at The Folies-Bergere” by Manet and in 2011 “Christ in His Father’s House” by J E Millais. In 2013 it was ‘Dinner on the Hotel Lawn by’ by Stanley Spencer. In 2014 it was ‘Gassed’ by John Singer Sargernt. In 2015 it was Samuel Spencer’s ‘The Resurrection of Cookham. Each picture presents us with a challenge. We enlarge the picture and make a colour photocopy, this is then cut into 24 pieces and given to members to paint. Members have to work together to ensure the colours match. At the end of the day the picture is assembled and compared to the original.
This year (2017) the details of painting our big picture is as follows.
